Engagement & Facilitation Projects
Beringia works collaboratively with Indigenous & First Nation communities on all types of planning projects ranging from comprehensive, sector and project plans, to research and mentorship, and implementation and evaluation. Each project is diverse and wide ranging. We listen to the needs of each community to co-create planning and development initiatives. Our work supports community-led projects, processes and outcomes.
Tŝilhqot’in National Government Nen Planning

Beringia is supporting the Tŝilhqot’in National Government (TNG) and six Tŝilhqot’in Communities to develop a territory wide Tŝilhqot’in Nation Nen Plan for their air, lands, waters and resources. The Nation Nen Plan will be formed by bringing together six Community Nen Plans. Our work includes supporting TNG and Communities with the development of community-led, collaborative, multi-phased nation and community nen planning processes. We are facilitating community engagement, conducting research and analysis, building a nen planning vision framework and supporting the development of the Nation Nen Plan. The plans are intended to support Tŝilhqot’in assertions of Rights and Title and nation and community capacity for decision making, nen protection and stewardship, and implementation.

Tl’esqox Community Health Plan

Beringia is supporting Tl’esqox First Nation to develop their community health and wellness plan (CHWP) by supporting engagement design and delivery, research and data analysis, capacity building, and the development of the plan. The CHWP process honours Tl’esqox’s long history of planning, holistic approach to health and wellness, and reflects members’ voices and perspectives. This plan will help assert community health governance, manage resources, and guide decision-making practices.
Elsipogtog First Nation Land Use Plan Phase 1

Location: Sikniktuk Territory, New Brunswick
Elsipogtog First Nation (EFN) under the leadership of Kopit Lodge (KL) is launching Phase 1 of a community-driven land use planning (LUP) process to further advance self-governance and the assertion of rights and title. Beringia’s work involves supporting project governance, the design and delivery of the planning process, research and data analysis, and documentation and communication.
Setłama’kmən IR2 Community Land Use Plan

Beringia is supporting Kwikwetlem First Nation’s (KFN) land use planning (LUP) process by facilitating creative community engagement, conducting research and analysis, and building a land use vision framework. Our work includes developing a land use plan with land use designations, mapping and guideline development. The LUP process is intended to increase KFN’s capacity for decision making, land stewardship, action prioritization, implementation and results tracking.

Many Eyes, One Vision – Taku River Tlingit First Nation’s Five-Year Physical Development Plan

Beringia assisted Taku River Tlingit First Nation (TRTFN) in reviewing and updating their 2004 five-year physical development and capital plan for the Wenah (Townsite) and tiyatì x` à Jighe (Five Mile) Reserves, resulting in an innovative, community-based, participatory and culturally relevant process and physical development plan.

paačiidʔaaʔx xayaasib – The People of the Seafoam’s Future – Pacheedaht First Nation’s Comprehensive Community Plan Phase 2

Beringia supported the Pacheedaht First Nation (PFN) with their Phase 1 and 2 processes to create a robust community-based process resulting in a completed comprehensive community plan (CCP) that honoured past planning knowledge, facilitated community decision making, and was culturally respectful and accessible to membership. The resulting framework and action plan prioritized setting a strong foundation for implementation and change.
Our Healing Journey – Pikangikum First Nation’s Comprehensive Community Health Plan

Phase 2 of Pikangikum First Nation’s (PFN) comprehensive community health plan (CCHP) mapped out a health plan to address the needs identified in the Community Health Needs Assessment. This CCHP remained fundamentally loyal to PFN’s unique Anishinaabe worldviews and philosophies while incorporating modern concepts and methodologies for ongoing engagement, strategic planning, evaluation and monitoring.

Honouring Our 7 Generations: Lower Similkameen Indian Band’s 5 Year Community Economic Development Strategy

Beringia supported the Lower Similkameen Indian Band (LSIB) to build a five-year community economic development strategy. The participatory process included an inclusive range of community engagement activities such as Council and staff workshops and discussions, surveys, community research and newsletters. The strategy considered community strengths and advantages, issues and opportunities, and values and priorities, which were organized into a framework for action that included directions, strategies, priority actions and implementation components.

Liard First Nation – Can You Hear the Drum Beat? Our 10 Year Vision for Health and Healing
Date Completed: 2010
Location: Yukon
A truly collaborative effort, this project brought together the Liard First Nation (LFN), the Liard Aboriginal Women’s Society (LAWS), five Kaska communities, and the citizens of Watson Lake, Yukon to design a culturally relevant healing system delivered by the local communities to address critical health issues. Beringia assisted with planning facilitation, training, research, analysis and plan documentation.
