Beringia integrates capacity building in all our planning processes (over the complete planning cycle) and has also designed and delivered an extensive range of workshops, conference engagements and planning education and training materials in customized ways.


 

Train the Trainer Project - Indigenous Community Development National Strategy (ICDNS)

The Train the Trainer project is an extension of the Canada-wide Indigenous Planning Bootcamp for Beginners. The purpose of the project is to develop Train the Trainer materials for the Bootcamp and pilot the delivery of the training. Beringia will support the development and delivery of the Training with Indigenous Advisors across Canada. This project strengthens the project’s sustainability and continues to build the capacity of a future generation of planners. It is part of a movement for systemic level change through recognition and certification in Indigenous planning. The project is being managed by the Red Circle Planning Group.

Indigenous Planning Bootcamp Project - Indigenous Community Development National Strategy (ICDNS)

Beringia supported the development and delivery of the Indigenous Planning Bootcamp for Beginners with Indigenous Advisors across Canada. The goal of the Bootcamp Project was to acknowledge the existing strengths of community members and to build the capacity of a future generation of planners. This project is tied to the Indigenous Community Development National Strategy’s (ICDNS) four pillars and 10 functions of community governance. Indigenous Advisors are initiating a systemic level of process change by implementing efforts to build recognition for Indigenous planning certification.

Land Use Planning Training Workshops

Date Completed: 2019

Location: British Columbia

With support from Naut’sa mawt Tribal Council, Beringia delivered five rounds of four-part training sessions attended by over 150 participants from 100+ BC First Nations launching their own land use planning processes. Beringia used a combination of presentations, visuals, case studies and practical exercises. Participants shared their own experiences and learned from other participants during this peer-to-peer, Nation-to-Nation networking and knowledge exchange.


Our Sacred Land – Indigenous Peoples’ Land Use Planning Handbook in BC with Naut’sa mawt Tribal Council

This award-winning Handbook supports First Nations land governance in BC by offering a hands-on, practical guide that details a full planning cycle and includes theory, methods, resources, stories of practice and practical tools for implementation (with additional tools/resources in the companion guide, Toolkit Resources).

Waskaganish First Nation – Comprehensive Community Planning Workshops: Preparing for Our CCP

Beringia developed and delivered a three-day training workshop in the community of Waskaganish on comprehensive community planning (CCP) in preparation for their CCP process. The workshop laid a strong foundation for Waskaganish First Nation’s CCP by identifying steps to prepare for and support the development of their CCP process.
